How to film yourself with the iPhone Duo rear camera
Use Duo Preview and the outer display to frame yourself with the 48MP rear cameras instead of the front camera.

On most phones the best cameras face away from you. On iPhone Duo, the outer display can face you while you use the rear cameras, so you get 48MP quality on yourself.
Why use the rear cameras for selfies
- 48MP Fusion Main, 26 mm, f/1.6 with sensor-shift stabilization, versus the 12MP front camera.
- 4K up to 120 fps in Dolby Vision on the main camera.
- Ultra Wide at 13 mm and a 120° field of view for group shots or showing a room.
Duo Preview is the key
Apple's Duo Preview shows a live preview on the outer display so whoever is being photographed can check their pose and framing. When that person is you, the outer display becomes your monitor.
Step by step
- Open the Camera app with the phone unfolded.
- Turn on Duo Preview so the outer display mirrors the viewfinder.
- Rotate the phone so the rear cameras and outer display face you, and half-fold it to stand on a table.
- Use Smart Take for photos: iPhone Duo detects when everyone is ready and takes the shot.
- For video, start recording with Camera Control. See our buttons guide.
Tips for better results
- Put the phone at eye level, on a stack of books if needed.
- Face a window for soft light.
- Record a 5-second test and check focus before the real take.
- Use smart focus tracking so focus stays on you as you move.
Add a script
If you talk to camera, a teleprompter keeps you from looking away. For the full creator kit see our creator guide and for fun ideas our camera party tricks.
Recording on iPhone Duo? Try PromptSlate Studio
Filming yourself with the rear camera works even better when you can see your script. PromptSlate Studio was built around exactly that: the outer display as your teleprompter. See PromptSlate Studio for iPhone Duo.
