8 best podcast apps for iPhone Duo: listen and record
The 8 best podcast apps for iPhone Duo, for listening and for making your own show, including video podcasts recorded on the Duo.

This list covers both sides of podcasting: apps to listen, and apps to make your own show. The Duo is good at both. The inner display shows episode notes and chapters comfortably, and tabletop posture turns it into a small recording studio.
How well a third-party app uses the Duo's 7.6-inch inner display depends on whether its developer has updated the layout for the fold. Apps that are not updated can show black bars in Split View. For the screen sizes involved, see our screen size guide.
1. Apple Podcasts: best for listening, built in
Free and built in, with transcripts, chapters and subscriptions to paid shows. For most listeners, it is enough.
2. Overcast: best for better-sounding playback
Overcast's Smart Speed trims silences and Voice Boost evens out volume. It is free with ads, and a premium subscription removes them.
3. PromptSlate Studio: best for video podcasts and solo episodes
Our app. More podcasts are now filmed. For solo episodes, intros and ad reads, PromptSlate Studio lets you record yourself on the Duo with your outline scrolling beside the camera, so you can keep eye contact and still hit every point. It works in tabletop posture with no tripod. It is in final development for iOS 27.1 and will be a $9.99 one-time purchase, with no subscription. For better sound, pair it with our audio recording tips.

4. Pocket Casts: best for listening on every device
Pocket Casts syncs across iPhone, Android and the web. It is free, with a Plus subscription for extras.
5. Spotify: best for music and podcasts in one app
Spotify includes podcasts, including many video podcasts, in its free tier.
6. Ferrite Recording Studio: best for recording and editing audio
Ferrite is a multitrack audio editor for podcasts and voice-overs. It is free to try, with a one-time Pro upgrade. More in our audio recording list.
7. Riverside: best for remote interviews
Riverside records each guest locally in high quality and uploads the files, so internet glitches do not ruin the recording. It has a free plan with limits.
8. Spotify for Creators: best for publishing your show
Formerly Anchor, Spotify for Creators hosts and distributes podcasts, including video, for free.
The bottom line
Listen with Apple Podcasts or Overcast. To make a show, record audio in Ferrite, interviews in Riverside, video segments in PromptSlate Studio, and publish with Spotify for Creators.
