6 best audio and voice recording apps for iPhone Duo
The best apps for recording podcasts, interviews, voiceovers and voice memos on iPhone Duo, with and without an external mic.
iPhone Duo has studio-quality mics and a USB-C port, so a wired microphone plugs straight in. The right app depends on the job: a quick voice note, an interview, or a podcast you will edit later. These six cover every case. For mic placement and settings, read our audio recording guide.
1. Ferrite Recording Studio: best for podcasts and editing
Ferrite is a full multitrack audio editor for interviews and podcasts, with noise reduction, chapters and templates. It is free to start, with a Pro purchase for the full feature set.
2. Just Press Record: best for one-tap capture
Just Press Record starts recording in one tap, syncs across Apple devices including Apple Watch, and transcribes recordings. It is a paid app.
3. ShurePlus MOTIV: best for manual gain control
Shure's free app gives you granular control over gain, bit depth and sample rate, and works best with external mics, including Shure's own.
4. RØDE Capture: best for uncompressed WAV
RØDE's free app records uncompressed audio with clear level controls. It is a solid pick for use with RØDE microphones.
5. Voice Memos: best for quick notes and transcripts
Apple's built-in Voice Memos is free, simple and syncs through iCloud. It also creates transcripts on supported devices.
6. PromptSlate Studio: best for video with good audio
Our app. If the recording is going on camera, such as a podcast clip or a talking-head explainer, PromptSlate Studio records the video while you read from the teleprompter, so your delivery sounds natural. It is in final development for iOS 27.1 and will be a $9.99 one-time purchase.
